Anne 3 Review Book

Anne 3 was absolutely horrible. (Granted, I wasn't all that fond of Anne 2, either. They should have stuck to the books!) Excluding the fact that most of the dialogue was terribly hokey and that placing Anne and Gilbert in the midst of WWI definitely messed with the time-line just a bit, but if they were determined to do a WWI movie, what was wrong with Rilla of Ingleside? It's one of my favourite Anne books (And that, of course, is one massive qualification in the grand scheme of things. ^_^) and I would have loved to see it made into a film. It may not have been as *exciting*, but it would have been actually intelligent, which was something that Anne 3, so burdened down in it's own sappiness, certainly wasn't. (10/30/2001)

I enjoyed the movie, when I saw it on video I bought it. My family and I watched all the shows and was pleased they kept the saga going. (10/29/2001)

I hadn't even known there was a 3rd film. Because of that I was just glad to finally see them married and Anne have her career. But I must admit the movie just felt different. It was a faster pace and more modern feeling but I am in love with the characters an liked it all the same. (10/26/2001)

I have finally watched Anne 3!!! I didn't even know about a third part until last year and then it took me months to get my hands on a copy because they don't have it in any video stores! It was worth the wait, however, because I feel like I now have some closure to the story. Though the movie had a pretty interesting storyline, I felt like I just watching another made-for-TV movie (although a very good one) rather than an "Anne" film. I have not read many other reviews yet, but I am sure that other viewers also felt like something was missing. The best part about the other two Anne movies is the lighthearted, small-town Avonlea charm and that was definitely non-existent in Anne 3. I missed the little stories about the townspeople and all the scrapes that Anne would get into. If Anne were to ever be involved in WWI, I do believe she would have reacted in the way that Anne 3 depicted, but the point is that Anne did NOT go to the front. By steering away from the books, some of "Anne" was lost. And as a side note, did anyone else notice how much deeper Megan Follows' voice was? In some scenes I could hear a glimmer of the ol' Anne voice and my heart would leap, but her new deep, sultry voice is soooo different! Also, they did not give Gilbert enough scenes! Who would not have loved to see more of Gil/Jonathan Crombie?!! He is the perfect man...when he bought Green Gables for Anne I was teary. Gil still had that boyish charm and undying devotion to Anne that makes him so attractive and wonderful. I also missed seeing Rachel Lynde. Anne seemed pretty cold towards Rachel when they met on the street which seemed completely odd because I thought they were pretty close. And they said (precious) little to each other. All in all, I like the idea of Anne going in search of Gil, but sometimes I was so mad at Jack Garrison and there were too many scenes about him and baby Dominic.

But what it does come down to (and the reason for the fairly high rating) is that we get to see Anne and Gil together and what could be better?! I realized that my favorite bits were when they would talk about something from the other two movies. Even seeing Josie and Moody Spurgeon made me excited! It was strange however that Josie and Anne decided to be friends, but I suppose that was appropriate. Diana also brought back so many fond memories and I am glad that she did not remain the arrogant, snooty lady by the end of Anne 3. The movie itself wasn't that bad (I liked it when Anne was singing on stage...so romantic), but I think the books are better. Montgomery's books remain in my heart as the "true Anne" and while Anne 3 was a nice story, I like Montgomery's intended storyline better. I have always thought that it would have been nice if Sullivan used more from "Anne of the Island" (book 3...my favorite after the first one)in the films. It would be wonderful to see Gil and Anne in Redmond, Roy Gardner, Phil Gordon, "Patty's Place", etc.! But it is too late for that. I guess we all have unfulfilled dreams! In conclusion: great movie because Anne and Gil were there and they are such great actors, but more Avonlea and a not-so-heavy overtone would have been nice! Anne 3 is not like the other two, but you have to see it still. (10/26/2001)

I don't think it was as good as the other 2 movies. But i still love it just the same. Anne isn't as crazy thinking as she is in the others. I loved that about her.I think it would have been better if it showed them after they got married, with their children. That would have been better and it would have followed the storyline in the novels. (10/25/2001)

I was a bit dissapointed that there wasn't much gilbert in it. But I think the plot was good...but less war mor anne&gil building there life together would've been better...and most people hate jack...but i thought he was ok. (10/24/2001)

The 3d movie was not as good as the others. I was glad however to see Ann and Gill get married:o) But I did not like the bedroom seen with Jack, and the war ether. I think that I like it better then the books though. SO it was not that bad. more of a watch every once in a wile:o) (10/23/2001)

I was completely disapointed with the 3rd installment of Anne of Green Gables. I love the whole series of books and I can't understand why Keven Sullivan decided to veer away from the original novels. There are so many ways he could have presented these stories without trying to turn it into a war movie (And Rilla of Ingleside is about Anne's daughter!). The appeal of the first two was the sweetness and innocence of life on PEI. (10/22/2001)
