Anne 3 Review Book

I really can't give this movie even one rating point, (in spite of the few scenes between Anne and Gil). Does it bother anyone else that Gil is going to have to raise Jack's kid? That every time Anne looks at her oldest child, it's Jack she's going to be seeing, and not Gil? It's Horrifying!!! It leaves me feeling sick every time I think about it. Not only was the movie a dissapointment, but it really felt like a slap in the face, (for all the various reasons others have already mentioned). I feel like something's been stolen from me. As if a safe, sacred, beautiful part of my childhood has been taken from me, and slaughtered before my eyes. I always thought the Anne story would be there, perfect and untouched, in it's sincere simplicity. I just found the film disturbing. It's bleak, muddy story the antithesis of everything Anne. Not an inspiration at all. I also find it upsetting that the one scene which might have made the whole thing worthwhile, Anne and Gil's wedding night, was cut from the film, (I'm assuming because it was considered "inappropriate" for young viewers), but the war and death were left intact. Horrible!!! (08/13/00)

Anne of Green Gables the Continuing Story was awesome!! I saw it on t.v. and I ordered it after as soon as I could. But it really does not relate to the AGG books. The only true things that I could find were; the fact that Anne and Gil had to wait five years till they got married and the fact that Gil took a position in Glenn St. Mary !! But it was great anyway!!! (08/13/00)

What was up with Megan's voice? It didn't sound like her at all! Anne Of Green Gables is a girls movie then why have all this war stuff with blood & guts! Anne is suppose to be a romatic. I had to reread the books to get true satisfaction. (08/12/00)

Kevin Sullivan wanted to make a "Great Drama," and the first rule of drama is that lovers are only interesting if they are kept apart. Unfortunately, most "Anne" fans - myself included - could care less about "Great Drama" - we just want Anne and Gilbert to finally be together. In fact, I bet many of us would pay good money just to watch Anne and Gil take a stroll down the lane for three hours. While I disagree with some of the criticism I have read (I think the actors did their best with the material they were given, and it would have been impossible to include Marilla, since Colleen Dewhurst has passed away), and while I heartily agree with other complaints (I missed the humor, hated the choppy editing), I think we all would have raised less fuss, even if the whole movie had taken place on the moon, as long as Gilbert and Anne had not been separated for so much of it. As it is, I have watched the Anne and Gil scenes of "Anne 3" over and over again, knowing this may be the last I get, other than in my imagination! I have little hope for an "Anne 4" as long as Kevin Sullivan is in charge of the story. However, if Megan and Jon want to dress up in period clothes and film themselves walking down the road . . . I will be the first in line to buy the video! (08/12/00)

Before viewing Anne 3, I knew not to expect it to be anything like the books. In addition, I was prepared to accept the timeline shift to World War I. But I could not, however, stomach the lack of Anne/Gil scenes, the pluthera of Anne/Jack scenes, and the modern feelings that overshadowed the entire film. It was extremely obvious to me that a MALE was in charge of this production. Mr. Sullivan did such a splendid job with the first two, why ruin a good thing? Aren't movies made to appeal to the audience that views them? Did he forget that the majority of his audience is women? The only joy I experienced from this movien was seeing the old castmembers reunited! Bravo to them all for making the most of a bad situation! (08/12/00)

I was excited to hear that Anne 3 was airing, and I taped it. I was disappointed at how harsh Anne seemed and how it totally disregarded the last 3 books of LMM's books. I thought it was great that they had almost all the original characters from the first two movies. I missed the folksy feeling of the first two movies. (08/11/00)

I loved seeing my favourite characters reunited, especially Anne and Gilbert. My fave scenes from the movie are seeming them together. I love their relationship, the chemistry between them is wonderful. I thought Jack was completely unnecessary. Interesting and attractive character but he just did not belong in this movie. The last half of the movie was extremely confusing and I didn't really have much feeling invested in the characters until the end when Gil and Anne are reunited. I don't mind Kevin Sullivan taken liberties with the books but I think he was way off track. And having Anne adopt that kid was just way weird. I loved it and hated it at the same time. (08/11/00)

I THINK THE MOVIE WAS GOOD,BUT HE NEEDS TO DO ANOTHER ONE TO FINISH. I WISH THEY WOULDN'T EDIT SO MANY SCENES!!! SOMETHING I LEARNED AT A SPEECH & DRAMA CAMP, ALWAYS STAY TRUE TO THE STORY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!!! I THINK IF I EVER BECAME A DIRECTOR I WOULD THINK ABOUT WHAT I'M SHOWING TO MY AUDIENCE AND HOW IT WOULD EFECT THEM. THAT'S THE SCARRY PART ABOUT FINDING OUT THAT WHEN SOMEONES DOING A SEQUEL, YOU DON'T KNOW IF THEY WILL STAY TRUE - SINCE IT HAS BEEN 15 YEARS! SO PLEASE MAKE ANNE 4, ALOT OF PEOPLE REALLY THINK IT IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO END! -- STAY TRUE!!!!! WHAT WOULD ANNE THINK IF SHE WERE REAL ??!!!!!! (08/11/00)

"The Continuing Story" was a big disappointment. I live in the Northeast, USA, have never been to Canada and have never even read the Anne of Green Gables books. Never the less when I first saw the film fifteen years ago I absolutely fell in love with Anne of Green Gables. What a beautiful, beautiful story, so I was very disappointed with "Anne 3". Where was the beauty of the first two films? What happened to Marila? The story was unbelievable and not based on the personalities developed in the original films. Please, please rewrite the story; give us another Anne of Green Gables (true to the books), don't let this beautiful story end with this film. I think we need to see more of beautiful Prince Edward Island & Avonlea, more of Anne & Gilbert and their life together, more of the wonderful characters in the first two films. After seeing The Continuing Story I was in complete denial and imagined (true to Anne) a completely different story and ending. As far as I'm concerned the story ends with Anne of Avonlea and I will imagine the rest (or maybe I will read the books). (08/11/00)
