I thought it was great for a mini series about the effect of world war one but I feel the film fell short of what I expected from a Anne series I knew from prior reading that they decided not to stay with the book plots but I don't think thats what went wrong with this film. They wrote Anne as still being spirted but just more mature but Follows did not properly potray this. Her understanding of the character of Anne was nothing short of amazing in the first two films but now their seems to be somthing missing she doesn't have Annes ligt any more it seems to me Follows no longer posses the power to potray Anne properly. Like many people growing older has caused her to lose her imagination (08/03/00)

I was so broken-hearted after seeing Anne 3 that I felt compelled to phone Sullivan Entertainment to say that all the romance, charm, humor and wit that were in the first two movies were missing from the Continuing Story. I said I felt like I was watching an "anti-Anne" movie. To my surprise the man I spoke with said it was partly INTENDED to be an anti-Anne movie, but admitted that maybe they had "gone too far." People have LOVED the first two movies for YEARS - but Sullivan and Follows apparently felt no hesitation to deliberately slap their audience in the face by making the Continuing Story a mockery. Those who feel as I do can call Sullivan Entertainment at (416) 921 - 7177. Ask for Carole Long at extension 248. I didn't speak to Ms. Long as she was unavailable, but to an assistant. (08/03/00)

At first, I was a little disappointed that things weren't exactly the way they were in the first two Anne movies, but after I watched the whole movie, I realized quite a bit of time has past. In the movie, the storyline took place five years after the long awaited kiss of Anne and Gilbert. The production of the third movie took place about thirteen years after the second. A lot has happened since then, and I absolutely loved the movie! I thought it was well put together and thought out. Even though it doesn't follow L.M. Montgomery's books, it does a great job developing the story of Anne and Gilbert. I thought this movie was more exciting than the first two. It kept me on the edge of my seat at times. Even though 'Anne' is grown up, she still displays the spunk and outgoing nature that she had in the first two movies, although not at the same extent. I rate it at a 4 because I think that there were a few scenes that could have been different, but overall I thought it was an excellent movie. (08/02/00)

Awww Shucks. I was so excited to watch the new Anne movie. I sat in front of the set with joyful anticipation and I waited..and waited...and waited a little longer to see "that magic" and then the credits rolled and I was still waiting. I was left disappointed and confused. The only pleasure I experienced was in seeing Megan and her co-stars back together again. Besides that there was close to nothing of what existed in the original award winning series. Somehow the screenwriter missed the fact that the beauty of Anne of Green Gables is in exploring the characters and watching how wonderfully they relate to one another. Nothing more and nothing less. WHAT DO YOU CALL THAT!!! THAT NEW ANNE IS A DISGRACE!! IT IS COMPLETELY MADE UP!! AND ANNE LOOKS SO OLD! HER VOICE IS DIFFERENT TOO. I'M SO UPSET. THERE IS NO WAR IN ANNE, THEY DO NOT HAVE BIG PROBLEMS LIKE THAT, THEY HAVE LITTLE "EARTH SHATTERING" THINGS LIKE DYING YOU HAIR GREEN. NO WAR!!! AND THEY GOT A DIFFERENT ACTOR FOR FRED. I SUPPOSE CUZ THE OLD FRED WAS ALL DUMPY LOOKING BUT THAT'S THE WAY HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE!! AND THEIR WEDDING WAS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY WRONG. I'M JUST NOT ACCEPTING ANYTHING THAT IS IN THERE. I KNOW HOW IT REALLY HAPPENS (FROM READING THE BOOKS) AND IT'S NOT LIKE THE MOVIE. AND THEY SHOWED GILBERT SMOKING AND ANNE DRINKING (AND IT WASN'T RASPBERRY CORDIAL)!!!! OF ALL THINGS!! IT'S ENTIRELY TOO MODERN FOR ME - THERE'S CARS!! THEY'RE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE RIDING HORSES! AND POOR GREEN GABLES!! THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN TO IT. IT'S ALL WRONG!!! OH I COULD GO ON AND ON. ANNE IS PLAYED WRONG. SHE WOULD NEVER LET THAT JACK GUY INFLUENCE HER OR KISS HER HAND!!THERE ARE SNIPETS OF THE REAL ANNE AND THERE WERE A FEW GOOD LINES BUT THOSE ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. BUT HAVING RACHEL LYNDE WAS GOOD,YET HER PART WAS ENTIRELY TOO SMALL. I MISS MARILLA. I HATE ALL THAT NEW YORK AND EUROPE JUNK. THEY SHOULD JUST STAY IN AVONLEA!! ANNE NEVER WENT TO WAR - IT WAS HER KIDS!!! IT'S ALL SO FAKE AND NOT REAL (AND WE ALL KNOW THE REAL ANNE IS QUITE TRUE)!!! WE RECORDED IT JUST BECAUSE I LONG SO FOR ANNE BUT IT WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE GIVEN THE PLACE OF HONOR NEXT TO THE REAL ANNE MOVIES AND BOOKS. OH I'M SO DISGUSTED!!! THE PARTS WHERE THEY FADE OUT TO PARTS FROM THE REAL MOVIES ARE GOOD - I ALMOST START TO CRY. I'M GOING TO GO WATCH THE REAL MOVIES NOW- AND GET THIS HORRIBLE THING OUT OF MY HEAD. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. I'M JUST GOING TO FORGET THIS MOVIE WAS EVER MADE SINCE NONE OF IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED. (08/02/00)

I am very disappointed with this movie. I would rather they just made it about other characters since it is so far off from the books and even from the spirit of the other movies. In World War One, Anne and Gilbert already have had all their children, and it is their sons who go off to war, not Gilbert! Plus, I was upset that this did not seem to me to be as much of a family-friendly show, with having some swearing, although mild, and also becoming too much like a soap opera, with Jack Garrison's affair with Colette and all of that stuff. For a while I was afraid maybe even Anne and Fred were almost an "item!" I have in my video collection the original Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea (and I also have all the books in the Anne series), but I have no intention of buying this new one. I would like to pretend it never happened! (08/02/00)

I thought the movie was ok, but they got old! I was used to thinking of Anne and Gil as young and in love. Here they were old and wrinkled. And there was no chemistry between them like there was in the old days. All in all it was depressing. I also thought they should have attempted to follow the book. (08/02/00)

The magic just wasn't there. I know the time period was different and Anne was older, but I missed the grand hair styles and clothes that the ladies wore. (08/02/00)

Anne's "spirit" seems to be gone from her character. She is tenacious, but the awe and excitement for life is gone--perhaps too realistically. The "sparkle" is gone from Anne's eyes. The ending left me feeling sad in a depressed kind of way--sad, instead of with happy anticipation for Anne and Gilbert's future. The script through the war years seemed too unrealistic--that Anne would even get to the places she did and meet up with the people she did seemed too contrived. The suspenseful aspects were effective. (08/01/00)

I loved Anne: The Continuing Story. I hope we are not left hanging. We need to have a sequel about Anne's writing career and what does her new house look like. I can't believe that Anne did not get involved in the suffragette movement. What are you going to do about it Sullivan? (08/01/00)
