While I have yet to see the concluding half of "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story", I still feel that this particular Anne video could have been done much better. I fell in love with the books long ago and even though the video versions aren't nearly the same thing as the books, the first two were so well-done that it didn't really matter. I think that the actual story line from the books themselves would have been a much better plot for this movie, but hey -- it involves Anne and Gil and Diana and all of the characters I've been reading (and watching!) for years, so I'm not about to tune out now!! After reading some of the reviews, I felt like I needed to put my two cents in. Like a lot of you, I was disappointed that Anne 3 didn't follow the Montgomery books, but on the other hand, I enjoyed the movie. Anne has grown up like we all have...even in the novels! I like the person she's become, especially in her relationship to Gil. I think some of the viewers got confused when they said that Anne and Gil were living together in New York. In one seen he told Anne he was leaving and heading back to his place. I hope there is an Anne 4 and even tho' I liked this movie, I would love to have the next one centered compleletly around Anne and Gil's wonderful relationship. (07/28/00)

I was very excited to see the Continuing Story. I followed the Anne series as a college senior. I was hoping that they could try to stay close to the books, but unfortunately that is not the case. It was good to see familiar faces, but they made Diana into such a snob! If I was Anne, I would crack a slate over Diana's head this time around! Gil will always remain Gil...sigh! I found it almost to be too depressing with little relief, where the other Anne's were a good mixture between happy and sad. (07/28/00)

i was also very disappointed with ann 3 . their was lack similarity with the book . i also don't think that ann would ever move in with gilbert before they were wed.if it wasn't for the return of the same actors and actress i wouldn't have watched the movie . i was so disppointed that i watched 1 and 2 over again just to get over 3. I was quit disappointed with the lack of similarity to the books. I feel they completely changed the story as well as the characters tainting the beautiful masterpieces created in Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. It was great seeing the original cast but the sroty was definiately missing the majical joy and enthusiasm we all love in the character of Anne. (07/27/00)

How utterly disappointing! I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I watched Part I from beginning to end last Sunday. But, I suppose it's like a mosquito bite you know you just shouldn't scratch because you know it's bad for you-but, alas, you just can't help it. Where was the charm? the wit? It was the simple moments - a nuanced glance or phrase - from these characters that made the stories - and the movie interpretations - so enduring and endearing. Now the writers seem to think that only a grand "love & war" storyline will engage viewers. I refuse to let this poor effort defile my love for the original Anne stories or Kevin Sullivan's first two efforts. Sadly, I doubt I'll be able to stomache watching Part 2, though.... (07/27/00)

If the original cast wasn't in this film, I would have rated it a 1. Did the makers of this film think that because we so loved their first two movies, we'd be happy with anything they gave us? I agree with so many of the reviews posted on this website. The formula for the first two movies was perfect: Montgomery's beautiful novels + amazing cast + talented crew + great location = the most wonderful movies I have ever seen. When the powers that be decided to stray from Montgomery's original books, they did everyone a diservice. I would also like to add that simply because this is 2000, modern audiences do not require the lewd acts of "Jack Garrison". Anne would never have been coerced into his bedroom after his greeting at the front door- even if he was Lord Tennyson himself! I was also disappointed by the wedding scene, which could have been so completely amazing. I am going to try and forget that this movie was ever made. (Now I'm done venting!) :) (07/27/00)

I was thoroughly disappointed. This movie didn't captureany of the enchantment that the original movies did. This was not the Anne that I know. This movie lacked all the things that I adored about the first two. I was so upset that turned the TV off after an hour and cried. I have tried to erase the memory of that first hour. I don't want to remember Avonlea and it's inhabitants this way. I still wish that you would do another one, but keep it true to the characters. (07/27/00)

I knew that Anne 3 would not follow the books at all, but I was very surprised and disappointed to find (1.)Anne and Gil living together before they are married (2.)Jack's being indecently dressed and making gross passes at Anne. Not like a real Anne movie at all! How nice it would have been to see Capt Jim and Leslie Ford and the House of Dreams.. (07/27/00)

My wife and I have been long time Anne of Green Gables fans, and have enjoyed watching the first two movies repeatedly. When our daughter was born eleven years ago we gave her Anne as a middle name because we so loved the series. We were therefore very exicted when we heard that the Continuing Story was being made. Our disappointment at the new movie was very great. All of the charm, romance, fun and magic were gone, replaced by a second-rate war story. It seemed as if the script writers were determined to do their best to offend those who loved Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. A the new movie was grim, bleak and depressing - not to mention extremely far-fetched. It was great to see Megan Follows again, she truely is a great talent. But even she could not carry the weight of a production that was in every way inferior to its predecessors. So upset was my wife by the Continuing Story that she said she would never be able to fully enjoy Anne of Green Gables or Avonlea again. (07/27/00)
