Anne 3 Review Book

Anne 3 is a bitter disappointment. It doesn't carry the spirit of the Anne we all know and love. This sequel is dark and gloomy, has no magic, and doesn't follow the original books at all!! This war setting is completely inappropriate for Anne of Green Gables. What readers love about Anne is that she has sparkle and her life is beautiful and romantic. This war theme does nothing to bring that out in the movie. Anne 3 is a complete mistake and failure. I will go back to reading all my treasured Anne books and will not allow Anne 3 to taint my memory and thoughts of what her life is all about. (07/24/00)

I was so excited to find out about the series. However, I was very dissappointed in the series. Although I have only seen the first half of the series, it is so rushed and out of character for Anne. There seems to be very little character development and I was very surprised to find out that it was directed by the same director. I will watch the second half, but will jsut have to savor in the memories of the old series. (07/24/00)

This was not my beloved Anne of Green Gables. It was "Anne meets Ms. Magazine." Of course I loved seeing Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie and all the other characters in their original roles, but I felt the spirit of the books that LM Montgomery wrote that changed my life as a teenager and adult was not there, and what was was heartbreaking to see. As a movie in itself when you try not to think that this is our Anne, it's an ok movie, on the same ranks as any romance made for tv movie. Kevin Sullivan, how you thought we would not be ourtraged is beyond me. (07/24/00)

My opinion of the latest Anne film is that of a mixed one. I have to admit that I loved seing all of the old characters again. They portray the actual characters in the book so well. Megan Follows hits Anne's character right on the spot...and Gilbert Blythe is just as charming in the movie as he is in the books. However, Anne just didn't have that glittering love of life that she always has had in the books. I also think that there should have been more focus on Anne and Gilbert starting their lives as husband and wife. That's the one moment that I was always waiting for ever since I read the first few chapters of Anne of Green Gables as a young girl. I would love to see another Anne film, but I would recommend that Sullivan return to the original Anne that we all know so well and love. I have yet to see the second half of The Continuting Story, but I am really looking forward to it!! I already know in my own imagination what Anne and Gilbert's romance is like. No movie that I see could ever change that. (07/24/00)

Anne 3 is sadly just became a story to tell a story. Apparently, Sullivan Ent. forgot that it was the revelation of characters that we came to love... where did the magic go? (07/24/00)

I would like to give my second opinion of the new Anne movie. Initially, my first opinion was of disappointment mainly because this new installment does not follow the beloved books AT ALL. And secondly it is hard to connect this new one with the first two because the time period just does'nt match up. But other then that, I have watched this new installment several times now, and it really is spectacular on it's own. I really love and enjoy this movie, and will for many years to come. I loved seeing all the old characters again, I loved seeing the love and commitment Anne and Gil have for each other, I thought it was highly romantic. I now give this movie a 5 rating. But how I would have loved to see "Annes House of Dreams". (07/24/00)

Tonight, I saw the 1st half of Anne 3 on PBS. What a DISAPPOINTMENT. The title was all wrong. The title "Anne's Mode of Transportation" (see Anne ride a boat, a car w/ Diane, a boat again w/ Gil, other cars, a train, driving a van - I almost expected to see her on a plane seeing as Kevin Sullivan is so confused about the story)would have been more suitable since Anne was hardly ever at Green Gables. Does anyone else suppose that all the wrangling Sullivan Films has had w/ L.M.M.'s heirs affected Anne 3 (see references at www.brightriverstation.20m.com)? (07/24/00)

I am so dissapointed:(. I didn't expect a literal translation from the books that I loved as a child but I certainly didn't expect a completely different story. I have been waiting forever for a sequal. Please read the books and see what Anne is really like and meet her children adorable children. (07/24/00)

Kevin Sullivan, Where did the Anne we all Love go? I felt this movie was somewhat entertaining, in and of itself, but it wasn't my beloved Anne. I felt the inspiring personality, thoughts and comments she made in the first two movies were just lost in this one. The occasional attempt at reviving our old Anne came across to me as very dull, and forced. Anne and Gil's Love and Romance and Marriage should have been so much more moving than this was. This version was so dark, not at all what I was hoping for. I miss the Hagood Hardy music, I miss the high romance of the past ones, I don't like Jack, and I just wish Kevin Sullivan could have realized how dear the L.M. Montgomery stories are to all of us and he could have followed them just a little bit in this continuing story. I want an Anne 4....Anne's House of Dreams...and please don't disappoint us again. Anne 3 was an utter disappointment. Although it was thrilling to see the characters again after so many years, there was nothing in this movie to treasure. First of all, Anne and Gil should have been married from the start! How could this amazing romance become so dull? Anne's character seemed to have lost all her spunk and optimism. The funny stories we cherished from Anne 1 and 2 were replaced with this war epic that drags on forever. Anne would never have looked twice at Jack Garrison. How could she when she has Gil as a husband??? Be realistic. I'm praying that in the next sequel, Anne will wake up and realize that Anne 3 was all a bad dream!! (07/20/00)
